ABSTRACT

Objective To study the clinical significance by detecting the levels of sera cystatin C(Cys C)in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods We compared the levels of sera cys C detected with the immune rate nephelometry(IRN)in 71 colorectal cancer patients. Then we compared it in 40 healthy persons and 48 colorectal disease patients without cancer to investigate the relationship between the level of cys C and the clinicopathological characteristics. Results The levels of cys C in colorectal cancer patients were much higher than those in the other control groups, and were significantly related to Dukes stages and the tumor differentiated degree. Conclusion The results provide convincing evidence that cys C may contribute to occurrence and development of colorectal cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the practical value of serum prealbumin and butyrylcholinesterase in Child-Pugh classification of liver cirrhosis. Methods 66 serum samples of patients with liver cirrhosis and 50 serum samples of the healthy subjects were collected for detecting prealbumin (PA) level and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activity, as well as hepatic functional indices(serum albumin, total bilirubin and alanine aminotransferase). The patients were classified according to the Child-Pugh score. Results Compared with healthy subjects, the content of PA and the activity of BuChE significantly decreased in the patients with liver cirrhosis. According to the Child-Pugh classification, PA content and BuChE activity in different grades of liver cirrhosis varied obviously. Conclusion The content of serum PA and the activity of serum BuChE had an important guiding significance in diagnosing the extent of liver cirrhosis, which can serve as effective indices for diagnosis of patients'condition and prognostic evaluation of liver cirrhosis.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To evaluate the changes of serum total prostate specific antigen (T-PSA), free prostate specific antigen (F-PSA) and the ratio of F-PSA to T-PSA (F/T) in patients with prostate cancer (PCa) and its clinical significance. METHODS: The concentrations of T-PSA and F-PSA in serum were measured by micropartical enzyme immunoassay (MEIA) using AxSYM System, and the F/T ratio was calculated. RESULTS: Before operation, the concentrations of T-PSA and F-PSA in patients with PCa were much higher and F/T ratio was significantly lower than that in patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). T-PSA and F-PSA levels decreased, but F/T ratio increased after operation in PCa and BPH. F/T ratio in 83.5% PCa and 6.5% BPH was less than 0.16. To diagnosis PCa, the sensitivity of F/T ratio was 83.5%, and the specificity was 86.7%. CONCLUSION: Serum T-PSA, F-PSA and F/T ratio are important parameters for the early diagnosis of prostate cancer. [
